I want to take some time today to tell you about an organization that is very close to my heart. It’s Hope Unlimited Family Care Center and Medical Clinic. Many people here in our own area aren’t aware of it, and if they are, they are completely unaware of all of the wonderful things done and supported by this ministry. Hope Unlimited has come a very long way since it’s beginning in 1989. It started in a small building as a place for one to go with an unplanned pregnancy, for free pregnancy tests and support for the mom to be. Now, some 27 years later, it has blossomed into a ministry serving not only these women in a crisis situation, but also the entire family, in crisis or not. The vision of Hope Unlimited is to serve families as a whole and they now offer a myriad of services intended to do just that.
Yes, free pregnancy tests are still offered, but there is now so much more. There is a program designed to help parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 to acquire necessities such as clothing, diapers, food and other essentials while also working towards a goal set by themselves, or working towards healing from certain past hurts that many of us carry. There are programs in place to educate high school and middle school children on sexual integrity, and opportunities for men and women to learn job skills that will better empower them to find and keep jobs so that they may support their families. There is also the medical side to Hope Unlimited.. Free STI testing is now available as well as a full OB medical clinic where a woman can choose to have her prenatal and post-partum care.
There are truly so many facets to this ministry that I can’t do it justice, I’m not a marketer… If this sounds even remotely interesting, please click the link below. It is an interactive copy of the newest newsletter from Hope Unlimited..

Yet again, my oldest child had a small writing assignment and, in my opinion, did a great job! Yes, I realize he’s mine and others may not be quite as optimistic about his writing ability as his momma… But hey, if I can’t use my blog to promote my amazing boys, then what’s it for??
The assignment was to create a short story (about half a page), the only criteria given was that someone should be running from something.. Here’s what he wrote.
He ran after her. Running for her life, she was terrified. She looked behind her and there he was. A mysterious, shadowy figure chasing her. He looked to be at least seven feet tall and very muscular. There seemed to be no break in the dim forest they were running through when suddenly she heard a deep grungy voice behind her yell CAROLINE! She almost jumped out of her skin screaming. How do you know me? All of a sudden out of no where a river appeared in front of her. She looked around and there was no place to hide and no place to run. He gets to her and wraps his hands around her neck. She can’t breath. Her vision is going blurry. She is still being choked. She can’t see now. Then suddenly, she wakes up. Her mom is calling her so she isn’t late for school. She was shaking all day.
Keep in mind, he’s 14 years old. I did not do any editing to the story. I feel like I should post it just as he wrote it. It’s a very short little story, but that was the assignment. I think it has quite a dark feel to it and I was starting to be concerned as I was reading it, but once I got to the end I realized he was describing that feeling more than anything else.. the feeling you can get from an intense dream such as this, or just the general claustrophobic feelings you can sometimes wake with.
I am posting this with his permission and will be sharing your comments with him. Thank you for reading!
In my comment below, I mentioned another story he wrote and I posted. It was not as easy as I expected to find it, so if you’d like to see more of his work, click here.
Such a great post, it definitely should make us all pause and really think about the message we’re sending our children!
Please read the original post, it’s well worth the read! You can leave comments there.

Mother’s Day kicks off one of Hope’s biggest fund raisers, the Baby Bottle Campaign! This is a month-long campaign that runs from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. Many churches, businesses and individuals receive empty baby bottles and throughout the month, place their spare change in the bottles and return them to Hope Unlimited. Change doesn’t sound like much, but it makes a HUGE difference! Watch this year’s video here.
There’s a new video each year to kickoff this campaign, keep an eye on this organization!
In case you’re curious about what else may be offered, but don’t have time to check out the site, here’s a quick video touching on available services through Hope Unlimited Family Care Center and Medical Clinic.
